Feeling Stuck at Work & No Time or Energy to Find a Better Job?

These are the reasons you're feeling stuck at work, and here's how to get clear on what drains you and how to change your situation...

Can you relate to this?

“I’ve been feeling stuck at work and unhappy for [months/years/forever]. I know I need to do something to change my situation but I don’t have enough [time/energy] right now”.

If this is your story – that you don’t have time or energy to invest in changing your situation so you’re no longer feeling stuck at work, perhaps you might want to test out the validity of that story you’re telling yourself.

Try doing a time and energy audit. Get a realistic picture of how and where you are spending your time. Then assess whether you are spending your time on things that drain you or that you’d rather not be doing.

If it’s within your control to stop doing those things, and yet you keep doing them and never get out of feeling stuck at work, then perhaps time isn’t the issue.

Perhaps it’s something else.

In my experience “I don’t have the time or energy” generally translates to “I’m scared.”

“I’m scared of getting outside my comfort zone.” (Even if it’s not all that comfortable!)

“I’m scared about making the wrong choice.”

“I’m scared about what people will think or say.”

It’s just … plain … scary!

I get that.

But what’s more scary, feeling stuck at work in a place you’d rather not be, or taking an informed step into a place that could be better?

If feeling stuck at work is not what you want, spend some time thinking about:

  1.      what the fears are

  2.      what good looks like for you so you know what to look for, and

  3.      what will help you back yourself and your decisions.
